Mr. Matthew Lemberg
I graduated magna cum laude with a double bachelor’s degree in fire science administration and arson investigation from the University of New Haven in 1999. During that time, I also became a Massachusetts certified emergency medical technician. I was appointed to the City of Northampton Fire Department in May of 2001. During my years there, I became a certified CPR instructor and a public child and life safety educator as well a Level 1 certified fire instructor. I became a Massachusetts certified EMT-paramedic in February 2006, and I was appointed to the rank of fire captain in October of 2006. I currently operate at the company commander level or occasionally at the shift commander level, and I run the department public education program, encompassing all fire safety education for kindergarten through the twelfth grades. In May of 2014, I received my master’s degree in public administration from Westfield State University.
I grew up in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and I relocated to the Pioneer Valley when I was hired in Northampton. I have been married to my wife MaryRenee for thirteen years and we have two children, Annabeth and Angelica. We reside in Westfield. We do love to travel, whether to the Berkshires to see family or to warmer climates. I am a self-proclaimed Disney fanatic and am a rabid Boston sports fan.
I believe that each student is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature intellectually. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, specifically (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the student's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect. Personally, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them.
John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this; that he lay down his life for his friends.”
